FAK Table in a Freight Agreement

This functionality gives customers the ability to automatically apply Freight All Kinds (FAK) rules during rating, ensuring shipments are priced according to the negotiated terms of their carrier agreement instead of the shipment's actual NMFC class.

Customer Benefits

  • Automatically applies negotiated FAK agreements. If a carrier agreement specifies that Class 85–125 should be rated as Class 85, the TMS automatically substitutes the rated class during pricing without any manual intervention.
  • More accurate freight costs. Users receive rates that reflect their contracted pricing, reducing discrepancies between quoted, billed, and expected transportation costs.
  • Eliminates manual overrides. Operations teams no longer need to remember which agreements have FAK provisions or manually adjust freight classes before requesting rates.
  • Supports carrier-specific pricing. Different carriers can have different FAK mappings, and the system applies the appropriate rules based on the agreement being rated.
  • Reduces billing disputes. Since the shipment is rated using the negotiated class, there is less risk of invoice discrepancies caused by incorrect freight class calculations.
  • Speeds up quoting and booking. Users can rate shipments confidently without reviewing the carrier contract each time, resulting in faster shipment processing.

Example

A carrier agreement contains the following FAK rules:

  • Classes 60–77.5 → Rated as Class 60
  • Classes 85–125 → Rated as Class 85

A shipment is created with an actual freight class of 100.

When G2Mint rates the shipment using this agreement:

  • Actual Class: 100
  • Rated Class: 85
  • The carrier's rate engine receives Class 85, producing the negotiated freight charge.
